THE ROCKS PROJECT IS THE STATEMENT OF A PORTUGUESE BRAND, WHERE AN ORGANIC PERSPECTIVE IS PRIVILEGED, LOOKING FOR MATERIALS THAT RECONCILE WITH NATURE.
The name “Rocks” and the signature “Since the beginning”, is an allusion to the first sharp objects, the solutions from the beginning of time.
Nuno Mendes (left) and Paulo Amado (right) have known each other for a long time. The first is currently the most important Portuguese chef abroad. He divides his dedication to cooking between the UK and Portugal, playing a prominent role in the national panoramas of both countries. He practices an uncomplicated but profound cuisine, not denying influences from the various places where this traveller has been.
Paulo Amado has long been connected to the restaurant business, where he began professionally and later became a journalist and director of the oldest magazine in the sector. Currently, he dedicates to organizing gastronomic events to generate social balance.
The crossed paths and the will to have a project, led them to this path of renewal of traditional cutlery and the creation of new models, through a brand of international capacity that is based on the reconciliation of the dream of two friends and produced with the ability of traditional cutlery craftsmen.
Rocks knives are made by ICEL, in Benedita, where the manual finishing gives balance to the solid construction and quality of the materials.
The first stage consists of transforming the Portuguese pocketknife into a table knife.
2
PHASE
A second phase for creating new knife options to use in kitchens.
3
PHASE
The third moment is one of great ambition and will be revealed in due course.
Rocks knives deserve special care to prolong the life of the materials they are made of. When washing, which should be individual, prefer only water or some non-aggressive detergent. The detergents for normal dishwashing and not some other anti-grease detergent because these are very aggressive. After washing, dry with a dry cloth.
Do not use your Rocks knives in the dishwasher.
Our steel is special, yet it may still need to have the edge pulled. The Rocks rifle grinder serves that purpose well.
The woods we use are stable and long-lasting with the need to apply a natural oil or wax. Camellia oil is what we recommend.
Some of our knives have a brass bezel, that piece that is between the wood and the steel in the middle of the knife. Brass tends to darken over time, something that is easily solved with a suitable metal cleaner.
THE NATURAL MATERIALS USED IN ROCKS KNIVES REQUIRE SPECIAL CARE IN CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Knives with horns and wooden handles should not be machine washed. They should be washed individually with water and detergent and dried immediately with a cloth.
Brass will darken over time and is easily renewed with any metal cleaner.
Wooden handles should be rubbed regularly with natural oil or wax to maintain their insulation against humidity. We recommend camellia oil.
